How does the 2015 Ram 2500 compare to Chevy’s Silverado 2500?
The 2015 Ram 2500 is so much more than a work truck. Once you experience the latest Ram 2500’s Uconnect® 8.4-inch color touchscreen display, the Silverado's 8-inch display is a bit of a disappointment. Additionally, most Ram 2500 models come with 1-year of free Sirius satellite radio service. Unfortunately in the Silverado, the best you’ll get is a 3-month trial, and that’s only standard on the more expensive models.
The Ram 2500 features three engine options, starting with the legendary 5.7 liter HEMI V8, with 383 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. The Chevy Silverado’s comparable 6.0 liter V8 can’t quite match the HEMI’s numbers, only producing 360 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. As for the diesel engine options, well, they’re all about the torque! The 6.7 liter Cummins Turbo Diesel engine in the Ram pumps out a whopping 800 lb-ft of torque. The Silverado’s second and final engine option, the 6.6 liter Turbo Diesel V8, is a way’s behind at 765 lb-ft. The Ram 2500’s third engine option is a good middle ground between the standard HEMI V8 and the diesel engine. This 6.4 liter HEMI V8 delivers 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque.
If you’re like most truck owners, towing capability is a big deal. The standard 5.7 liter HEMI V8 in the Ram 2500 starts off at 13,870 lbs of towing capacity. Next up is the 6.4 liter V8, where you’ll find an increase in towing capacity by about 3,000 lbs to 16,300 lbs. The Ram 2500 tops out at 17,970 lbs of towing capacity in the 6.7 liter Turbo Diesel-equipped models. The Silverado 2500’s Turbo Diesel V8 comes close in rivaling the diesel in the Ram, with 17,200 lbs of max towing. The Chevy V8 engine comes in at the low end of the range between the Ram's two HEMI V8 engines, at 14,200 lbs of max towing. If power, towing capacity, and technology features matter to you when shopping for a new truck, be sure to give the 2015 Ram 2500 a closer look!View Inventory
